Steve works for a really amazing company called BambooHR in Lindon, Utah. It was a total blessing that he was able to get hired on for them and he worked there during the summer as an internship. When I say they are an amazing company, I feel like that is an understatement. They make sure that they take good care of their employees and have lots of extra benefits. One of the their newest benefits is called Paid paid vacation. They give part-time employees $1,000 to spend on a vacation. The only thing you have to do is take a picture of you wearing your Bamboo HR shirt and submit your receipts and then they give you your money. We have been wanting to take Addison to Disneyland and we wanted it to still be magical for her and so we figured this was a perfect time to go. We planned it for the last week in February. We got it all booked and it even worked out that our niece Dawna was going to be singing in California Adventures one day that we would be there so we were going to meet up with her and her family. Steve and I were SO EXCITED and hadn't really told Addison the plan yet because we wanted it to be a surprise. Really though, we just didn't want her asking every day when we would be going to Disneyland. We were going to leave on Sunday and get home on Sunday but the kids came down with a cold about Friday so we decided we would leave Monday. I took them to after hours Friday night and the doctor prescribed medicine for Addi for a sinus infection and Jace they said had bronchitis and gave him medicine. Well, Jace was VERY sick Saturday and Sunday. Sunday night Jace's breathing was really shallow and he was very lethargic and we debated several times if we should wait it out or take him to the ER. We decided we would wait it out and get him in first thing Monday morning. Jace slept on us all night long because we were really worried about him and his breathing.Monday we got him into his awesome doctor bright and early and I told her our situation. We had already booked our trip and it was not refundable and we just really wanted to go. Turns out he had pneumonia a really bad case of pneumonia. Kristi (our doctor) knows us pretty well and you could tell that she was concerned about Jace and she could tell we really wanted to go to Disneyland. She gave us the medicine that Jace needed to help fight his pneumonia and breathing treatments. She told me it was actually probably a good thing for him to sit upright in his carseat and keep the crap out of his lungs. She made me promise that we would check into our hotel Monday night and just take it easy all day Tuesday since our tickets weren't until Wednesday for Disneyland and if he wasn't getting better by Wednesday she said we needed to get back into Utah state lines where we had insurance coverage and get him checked out. She said he should feel a lot better by Wednesday but there is a chance it could get worse. I went and got the medicine and Steve loaded the car and we were heading to California. Before we even left town Jace threw up so we turned around and went and cleaned him up and headed out again. We stopped in St.George at Swig and went into their nasty little bathroom and did Jace's breathing treatment and distributed medicine to the kids and cleaned Jace up because he threw up right before we stopped. We got us a beverage and were on the road again.
We made it to California to our hotel. We all slept in and took it easy the next day. We checked into our Disneyland hotel (the ramada across the street) it was a perfect location.
Wednesday we were ready for Disneyland and Jace seemed to be doing tons better, just a little grouchy. We spent Wednesday in California Adventure, Thursday in Disneyland and Friday in both parks. We had so much fun being with our kids and seeing their joy and excitement. I've been to Disneyland before but it is so much fun with kids.
One day we scheduled Addi for an appointment at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and she got a little princess make over and it was worth every single penny. A fairy godmother did her hair, added fairy dust (glitter), painted her nails, put some make-up on and presented her with a sash, shirt, and skirt.
Friday we met the Herrs at Disneyland and Addi wanted to ride the Indiana Jones ride with us but we encountered a little problem with height requirement. The worker told us to find some shoes that would make her a little taller. She was so sad and I wanted to get her on the ride so I went into the bathroom and stuffed her socks full of tissues and I had a couple pack of tissues in my purse and put those under her socks and we got in line. We went through with no problems and it was worth it! That was her favorite ride.
We made so many memories and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It was the best vacation we've had so far as a family. We can't wait to go again.
After we were done at Disneyland we went and stayed with Steve's brothers family in Las Flores and were able to spend some quality time with them. We got to attend our nephews birthday party and it was awesome that our kids were able to play with their cousins that we don't get to see nearly enough.
Anytime we drive through Vegas we always stop over for a night to visit our most favorite person Grandma Horst! We just love her to pieces and enjoy every second we get to be around her.
