Steve had decided he really wanted to go on to get his PHd in Advertising and Marketing in order to become a professor. He really is excited and passionate about teaching and he is so dang smart that this has all worked out so great for him. He had picked from a list of the top schools with the best programs and then we sat down together and decided on our top 3. Austin Texas, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and Amherst Massachusettes were the 3 that we had agreed on and he went ahead applied for them. I was really hoping and praying for Austin to win. I love Texas and I've only been there once. He got accepted into University of Texas in Austin and we were beyond THRILLED! We went straight ahead and started planning and preparing to head to Austin. While we were at Disneyland Steve's good friend Harper had called Steve and said, "Hey, I applied to Texas Tech University in Lubbock and they just called me and are flying a group of students down to interview. Have you thought about applying there?" Steve got off the phone with him and told me about it and I said something like "never ever in a million years, theres no amount of money that you could pay me to go there." I'd actually never even heard of Lubbock until March of 2015 so I'm not really sure where my negative little attitude came from. I told Steve, "you should apply and just go for the free trip." He started applying that night but didn't finish it. The next day he got a call from one of the head people and they told them they got his application and they had also read his thesis and they really wanted him to finish applying. He had missed the deadline to go with his friend on a trip but they flew him down a few weeks later by himself and gave him a tour and interviewed him. He quickly realized he could be very happy at Texas Tech and loved the instructors and the college. We were still waiting for the financial offers from UT and Texas Tech and I just kept thinking there is no way that a small University like Tech could ever offer us something as amazing as UT could. Long story short UT came back with a very weak offer. Steve had called and talked to a professor and also talked to a student from UT and after both he just really felt like he'd have such a different and possibly better education at Texas Tech. I wasn't ready to let my dreams of Austin go yet so we didn't decide anything right away, I kept secretly praying that UT would call back or something would change but what really happened was the more we waited Texas Tech kept coming back with more incentives. It was so funny because it just got to the point where I was like ok this is pretty obvious that we should go to Texas Tech so we accepted their offer right before Steve graduated from BYU.
