Grab Life and Enjoy It

The world is just too big of a place not to explore. And almost a year in Idaho Falls was enough to push us out the door to the next adventure. Well, it was actually our friends Ben and Erin Sweetwood. They told us how excited they were to finally be going on a cruise, and then got the brilliant idea that we should join them. I have to admit, it took a little time to shake off the inhibitions and excuses, but we booked the same cruise as them, and in May, The Holidays and the Sweetwoods will be taking on the world (for five nights) on Enchantment of the Seas! Jillian and I have never been on a cruise, and everyone is telling us that we are in for a big adventure. Since booking it, there is very little time that passes without one of us giving a sly, excited smile to other and saying "Guess what? We're going on a cruise!"

At first we tried to frugally shop online for a cruise, but the fact that we could be traveling with our friends kept bringing us back to the same option. I told Ben that he and Erin are no more than $200-$300 friends (meaning if we found something that much cheaper we were going to ditch them), but in the end we decided that that factor was well worth it.

We will leave from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on May 17th and will explore Cozumel and the Grand Cayman and the open sea, and return to Florida on May 22nd. While on the ocean we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary (a little belated) and Jillian's 25th birthday- we want to welcome her the Quarter-Century Club in style!

Our friends, if you are reading this, grab life with both hands and enjoy every moment of it. It is too short to get caught up in a job you don't like, a mountain you can't climb or a personality quirk of someone else's that you just can't stand. You don't have to travel- that is just our "thing"- you can climb those mountains, read that book, go to that restaurant, spend more quality time with those you love, pick those berries or study those birds, or quit your job and find something that invigorates you every morning rather than aggravates. Find that museum you've never had time to go to or that card you never had time to write and send to the person you love and just DO IT!!

We went on a cruise several years ago and it was a blast. A little hint about Cozumel. The town of Cozumel isn't that great and is quite a long walk, or taxi ride from the cruise terminal. There are car rental counters right at the terminal and for $19 we rented a car for the day, drove to the other side of the island, about 20 minute drive and had a beautiful white sand beach all to ourselves.

Too bad having a kid ruins it so that you will never be able to do something like this again....though, in our case, it's never at all...whoa is me...

Steve- you forgot to mention how I had to threaten violence and use a couple choice words to get Jillian to book the cruise...I'm glad it worked:)
