Dr. Seuss said it best, and as I look at the little steps that Addison takes on a daily basis (huge leaps for her!) I am amazed how strong her will is. This week Addison has gotten up to 4 lbs. 10 oz. She has gotten off caffeine (which means she doesn't forget to breathe anymore) and she regulates her own body temperature, which means she got to move from her isolette into an open bassinet. But the biggest news of the week is that Addison drank her first full bottle and now takes about 30-40% of her feedings orally (as opposed to through her nasal gavage- which she has become very talented at pulling out on an almost daily basis). It's a long road from the 100% mark that she has to cross to come home, but it is coming, and everyone tells us that one day a "light" will go on, and she will just start doing it.
For those of you that know about our Halloween obsession, this may come as no surprise, but Addison already has four Halloween costumes for this year and one for next year. We waited until October officially hit, but that was all we could take. Here is the first one:
And here is a rare photo of Jillian and me with Addison, without a gavage in her nose (even though you can't really tell here):
So the Doctor's word is that Addison could come home as early as next Monday. We're trying not to get our hopes up, because there are a lot of hurdles for her to jump before that day comes, but she seems to know it and is checking them off daily, one at a time.
