A Day with the Jets

My dad (Steve's) spent his birthday with us this year, and we wanted to find him a meaningful birthday present. So we decided to take him to the Pima Air & Space Museum here in Tucson.

The weather was beautiful the day we went. What we thought would be a 2-3 hour tour ended up being a 4 and a half hour visit filled with so much information, and so many stories from my dad's years in the Air Force, that our outing ended up being a priceless memory for me. And the best part is that Addi LOVED spending the day with Grandpa Holiday, loved the big planes, and didn't get bored.

As we walked through the hangars and over the grounds, Dad told us stories of the planes he flew on to Korea and Okinawa, the bombers he worked on, and the cool fighters and jets that had their glory days while he was serving our country.

I don't think I've had very many history lessons that were this exciting or personally meaningful.

Dad spent a large portion of his time in the Air Force working on the navigation systems of the B-47, the world's first all jet bomber.

Grandpa Holiday and Addi with the B-24J. Dad was really excited to see this one because he is reading the book "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand.

Addi even got in some flight time!

I am so proud of my father and for serving our country, and all of our service men and women who protect our freedoms, and the freedoms of those citizens of our world who want so desperately to live in a place where they are safe, and can have the opportunity to thrive spiritually, economically, and physically.
