Poor little Addison
So the only thing new in our house is Addison is very sick. She has had this cough for about 4 weeks now and it started off as being just when she ate she would choke then she'd get this really crappy sounding cough. Well, that layed low for a while and then last weekend it got really bad so I took her to the Dr. on Monday, not my regular Dr but another and let me tell you how NOT impressed I was. He listened to her lungs and looked in her ears and said oh it is probably just a respiratory infection and she caught it twice. She is happy and playing and is gaining weight so really it is probably just a cough and maybe some allergies. So I took it and was like ok. I am really paranoid about being over cautious about things so I don't normally take her in unless I feel it is serious. Well here we are a whole week later and she has been hacking her little lungs out just like she was when I took her in last week, but now it is even more frequent. So I took her in yesterday to her regular Dr. and he was immediately concerned when he heard the cough, he said it sounded like she was coughing her guts out. Then he asked if it was this bad last week and I said yes and let him know that i had brought her in. So he took her blood to check for pertussis (the whooping cough) then sent us to the hospital test for chest and stomach xrays and also for a swallow test to make sure her food and drink is going down the correct tube. We did that and the swallow test was horrible the poor little thing had to drink that nasty barium out of a bottle but the radiologist found that she has severe reflux and she is throwing up her food but not all the way and then coughing on it. Mine and my Dr's theory is who wouldn't throw up that stuff when she was sitting there throwing a fit and crying and being forced into unnatural positions. Anyways, she doesn't have whooping cough. We are going back today at 2:30 because it is even worse today and she won't eat, she is pushing her bottle away. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Could this be bronchitis?

I hope she gets better soon it is so hard to have sick little ones. When McKenzie was a baby she had kinda the samething she would not keep anything down she would throw up all the way she never coughed on it...that's scary. Hope the appointment today finds something they can do. Good luck!!
They have medicine for reflux. My niece and nephew had it. I wonder if they gave her the medicine for that if that would help.
poor Addison, i hope its nothing too serious and she feels better soon.
I bet the cough is just making the reflux worse (cuz she's already on prevacid, and normally fine, right?). Poor thing. I know Sam has been sick a lot and there have been times when it has just settled in his lungs and he had a really bad mucousy cough for a while and of course, wouldn't eat. He would cough and gag and then throw up. But it will pass! Hopefully its nothing more serious.
Ellie had reflux (thats why she was in the NICU for a few weeks)and they did the x-ray with the sick barium and all. They gave her a prescription for Zantac. It took a little bit but now she doesn't have to take it- and her reflux is gone.
I'm glad you have a better Dr. I hate when Drs just talk to you like you have no clue. I hope she gets better soon. :o)
