Patriotic Business

This week I (Steve) had a business trip to the East Coast. I spent time in Georgetown, Virginia, Washington D.C., Delaware, and Baltimore. It was a very successful trip filled with meetings and strategic planning, but the most memorable part of the trip came after we finished working on Wednesday and I got a chance to walk the National Mall.
I haven't been there since I went with my family when I was 12, so the Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, and the FDR Memorial were all on the must see list. It was all outdoor monuments and memorials for the few hours I had, so I got to go to the top of the Washington Monument (p.s. January is a GREAT time to see the nation's capitol- there were very few tourists and NO crowds anywhere)- a first for me and a breathtaking view; I got to see the World War II Memorial- and amazing, humbling tribute to the brave soldiers who fought there; I went to the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial, before going to the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial, the White House, and the U.S. Capitol. I wish I could say that one was the best but, in general, returning to this Mecca of American patriotism envoked a great sense of nationalism and pride. The timely caucusing of the presidential race added to the experience and helped me to fully embrace the importance of our politcal process. Needless to say I now religiously follow the primaries!

The trip ended with delayed flights and missed connections, but made it possible for me to have dinner with my little brother, Nate (who was there on a business trip), in Denver on Thursday night.
